In the Middle Ages, Aquitaine was the scene of a rivalry between the King of France and the King of England, which gave rise to the future Hundred Years’ War. At the heart of this conflict, the central character is a woman, Aliénor, the rebellious Duchess Aliénor d’Aquitaine, Queen of France and then of England. It was at the Royal Abbey of Fontevraud that this “grandmother of Europe”, with an extraordinary destiny, chose to end her life.
